Cobb county manager, David Hankerson, named top in state
Cobb County Manager David Hankerson was just named one of Georgia’s top public servants for 2004.
The Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia, in partnership with Georgia Trend magazine, named Hankerson as the top county appointed official with its Excellence In Public Service Award.
Hankerson said he was surprised by the award and didn’t know he had been nominated until he was notified that he had won it.
“It’s just a great honor,” Hankerson said Thursday. “Professionally, I can’t think of a higher honor than to be recognized by these two great organizations.”
Hankerson was appointed Cobb county manager in 1993. He is the chief executive officer of Cobb County and the administrative head of county government who handles implementation of policies set by the Cobb Board of Commissioners.
“Under Mr. Hankerson’s leadership, Cobb has maintained a fiscally conservative budgetary policy and has been awarded its eighth straight ‘triple A’ designation from the three national bond rating agencies,” Board of Commissioners Chairman Sam Olens said.
“Despite having the lowest millage rate in metro Atlanta, our residents receive outstanding customer service and the best public safety service in the state. The Chattahoochee Tunnel and the East-West Connector are just a few of the many successful projects Mr. Hankerson has overseen.”
Hankerson, a Burke County, Georgia, native, has previously served as district conservationist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service and was the director of Cobb County Community Development Department. He is profiled in the September issue of Georgia Trend. » back to top |
